Coleman, Roni, and Makadie

A visit from Grandma & Grandpa Workman

I am still playing catch up with our blog. Roni's parents came out to visit the last week in March beginning of April. It was a treat to have them come. It was a quick trip so we tried to cram as much as we could in the few days they were here.

We went to the Denver Zoo! One of our favorite places here! It was a bit chilly though. The week before they came to Denver it had been warm and sunny. But as soon as they arrived it started to snow! So we bundled up and went anyway. Makadie loves all the animals! Since it was still cold a lot of the animals were still in their winter homes, which made it hard to see them. But we still had fun with all that we did see.

We also took a drive up to Red Rocks, but it was SUPER cold when we got to the top. We took a quick picture and got back in the warm car.

Grandma and Grandpa wanted to bring souvenirs back to Roni's brothers so we went to Colorado Mills Mall to see what we could find. We have been to this Mall many times but never have cash to ride the Carousel, but we remembered this time. Makadie had a blast on the Sea Horse thing she chose to ride on. She loved coming around and seeing Grandma and Grandpa.
We also went to the Denver Aquarium, the Children's Museum, and went to the ESPN Zone at 16th Street Mall. Grandma is a HUGE sports fan so we thought that she would enjoy the ESPN Zone. We sat in the room with the Wall sized screen and each table had their own little screen that the customer could control and change. It was a fun place and Grandma did enjoy it!
We look forward to their next visit to Denver and can't wait to see them again.

Cinco De Mayo--in August

Coleman's parents came out to visit over Cinco De Mayo. I just found the folder of the pictures from their visit, so I thought I would post a few! We went to the Cinco De Mayo festivities in downtown Denver. It was a fun day!

We watched the parade. It was full of fun colors and music. Makadie really loved the dancers and the horses. She even got a bright orange bandanna, which she still loves to wear--and when she does, she becomes a pirate and says "Arrr" while bending her pointer finger like a hook---pretty cute!! She also got some foam balls and a lanyard from the Navy, oh yeah and candy too! She has such a sweet tooth!

Roni was pregnant at this time and enjoyed sitting more than walking. So during the parade she relaxed on the curb and Makadie came to sit by her mommy and eat her loot from the parade.

They had a petting zoo that was fenced off for kids to see the animals. Makadie had a blast. There were goats, ducks, ponies, sheep, and maybe a few others. She even got to try to feed them some chopped up carrots. So of the animals were too brave and got really close to Makadie and the food. Mommy was more nervous about that than Makadie was though.

After the Cinco De Mayo festival we took a drive up to El Dorado State Park. By the time we got up there it started to thunder and lightening--so we did not stay long. We did get out of the car to throw rocks in the river though. We had told Makadie on the drive up she could, she was SO excited to throw the rocks in the water we had to let her toss a few in. It was a beautiful drive up and down the mountain.

Makadie was in the need of some larger shoes! Grandma and Grandpa treated her to two very cute pairs. Some white sandals with flowers and red Keds! Makadie really loved her new shoes. Especially the red ones, she carried them around the house for a few days and always asked to wear them when she needed shoes on.

CAGED!!! Makadie loved 'roaring' through our friends stairway banister. We had a BBQ at their house and Makadie spilt root beer all over her and Mommy. They found a shirt for her to wear, it was a Colorado State Rams shirt. They both went to CSU--which is an opponent of BYU. We always tease each other about our teams, so they thought that it was really funny to have our daughter in that shirt.

Stake Pioneer Day Activity 2007

We went up to the mountains for our Stake Pioneer Day Party. They had dinner and activities. It was fun because they actually had activities that Makadie could participate in.

Our first stop was the Whirligig table. Makadie got to glue pieces of nature on a circle on a string. She put rocks, pine cone pieces, leaves, flowers, and more on hers. It looked fabulous. She could not model it because it was TOO wet with all that glue.

We then went fishing. She pulled out some fancy lips that whistle as you blow through it! She thought these were pretty cool! She calls them her "ips" or her "istle".

The we thought we should try something more athletic. The Bean Bag Toss! Makadie has quite the arm and is a pretty good shot. The people in charge of the game moved the bucket close so that Makadie could have an easy shot---but quickly moved it back to its regular spot due to her long throws! She even made a couple in the bucket!

Then we made a pretty beaded-noodle-yarn necklace. Makadie had fun doing this too, but the holes on the beads were so small she got a bit frustrated when she could not get them on. But she was willing to let Mommy help (which is not always the case these days) so we got it finished!

Our friends Jeff and Tammy were there too with their son, Caden. Makadie loves these guys! She is excited that Caden is a little bigger and a little less fragile so that she can play with him. Here she is giving him a big hug! She is a great hugger!! Then she thought that they should dance. I am not sure if Caden enjoyed it as much as Makadie, but he was a good sport!

Makadie's favortie part of the evening was the horses--ponies! She loves riding the 1 cent horse at the grocery store and "giddy-ups" all the time at Mias---but we were not sure how she would do with a real horse! She was doing great for the first of the ride, but then the pony started galloping and she was bouncing and this startled her! So that was the end of the ride. She would not get back on, but did talk enthusiastically about it to everyone after the ride was over! So I don't think this will be her last horsey ride!

On the way home from the party we stopped by Buffalo Bills grave. He and his wife are burried inside this fence. It was kind of weird because it was like a wishing well of sorts. There was change all over the grave. We found a sign saying all the money collected would go to help preserve and up-keep the grave and museum. Makadie really wanted to climb in the fence!

More dirty fun Camping at the Slade Reunion

Makadie really wanted a 'ride'. She kept asking and asking to ride the 4 wheeler. Uncle Chooch decided to make her wish come true and took her for a ride. He had traveled maybe 2 feet when she was ready to get off. She had no idea that the ride would move. So after that she had fun riding the 4 wheelers in place.

A fun past time at camp is always the game of Washers--it's kind of like horseshoes but with washers and boards with holes for the washers to land in. It is a lot of fun! And the Slade's start young! Here is Guage getting in some great practice!
